AI usage policies
The journal adheres to contemporary international standards regarding the use of generative AI in scholarly publishing, in particular the policies of Elsevier on Generative AI for journals, Recommendations on the Use of AI in Scholarly Communication issued by the European Association of Science Editors (EASE), and COPE .
Prohibition of Listing AI as a Co-Author
The Editorial Office does not recognize artificial intelligence systems as authors or co-authors of scholarly publications (see the COPE position statement). AI systems cannot assume responsibility for the content of a work, make ethical judgments, or guarantee the reliability of research results. Authorship may be attributed only to natural persons who meet the criteria of scholarly responsibility.
Limitations on the Use of AI
AI may be used as an auxiliary tool for improving readability, language editing, translation, structural organization of material, or idea generation. The use of AI must not replace the author’s own intellectual contribution, scholarly analysis, or formulation of the main conclusions of the study. Where AI is used as a technical assistant, authors are required to carefully verify and edit the outputs generated, as such systems may produce inaccurate, incomplete, or biased information and may distort the author’s original material.
Mandatory Disclosure of AI Use
In cases of substantive use of AI, authors must clearly specify: which AI tool was used, for what purpose, and in which parts of the work it was applied. Disclosure of AI use is normally provided in the “Methods” section or in a separate statement placed before the list of references. Disclosure is not required for the use of standard tools for grammar, spelling, style checking, or reference formatting.
Authors’ Responsibility
Regardless of the use of AI, authors bear full responsibility for the content of the publication, including the accuracy of reported facts, originality of the text, correctness of references, and compliance with principles of academic integrity. Authors must ensure proper attribution of all materials used.
