Анотація

У першій частині статті (розділи 2-6) викладено загальну критеріальну теорію морального прогресу. Виокремлено три типи морального прогресу: 1. етичний прогрес, тобто епістемічне та моральне вдосконалення моральної теорії (етики); 2. практичний моральний прогрес або моральний прогрес у вузькому сенсі, тобто моральне вдосконалення моральних систем і моральних дій; 3. повсякденний моральний прогрес, тобто повсякденне вдосконалення світу відповідно до моральних критеріїв соціального благополуччя. Ці поняття визначені, а визначення обґрунтовані без циклічності. Характерними рисами цього підходу є, по-перше, включення етичного прогресу, який спочатку породжує центральне поняття моральної бажаності і який потім може бути використаний у визначенні морального прогресу у вузькому сенсі, а по-друге, те, що етичний прогрес, а отже, і обґрунтування визначення поняття моральної бажаності, є не моральним, а епістемічним і ґрунтується на розсудливій бажаності. Крім того, обговорюються епістемічні проблеми цих визначень і критеріїв, такі як їх обґрунтування без циклічності та самореференційність (розділ 6). У другій частині (розділи 7-10) наводяться приклади трьох типів прогресу, а також відповідні регресії. У додатку (розділ 11) обговорюються деякі альтернативні теорії морального прогресу.
