The paper presents an analysis of development of some basic historico-philosophical ideas about the exchange and gift in social and cultural aspects. Exchange and gift are represented as interconnected, but fundamentally different phenomena (a constructive role of the gift and a destructive one of the exchange).
The author offers a preliminary explanation for oblivion of a gift and apotheosis of an exchange in social and cultural coordinates of the Modern history
