Implementation of computer-based testing for the evaluation of students’ knowledge in higher educational establishments

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of technology capabilities and results of computer testing for evaluation of knowledge students. Such shells as MyTest (MyTestX, MyTestXPro) and Testing, Test Provider, OpenTEST, TestTurn, testing system INDIGO, IREN have been considered. Information about creation and conduct of computer testing in the environment of these programs, features of statistical collection and analysis of results was generalized. The value and expediency of the program MyTestX for evaluation of knowledge students have been substantiated. Diverse aspects and features MyTestX: testing of different disciplines and in separate sections; testing for various purposes; testing different types of users (students, trainees, enrollees) were presented. Features of the MyTest program, modules of the test shell (MyTestStudent, MyTestEditor, MyTestServer), SWOT-analysis of the MyTestX (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) program have been investigated.Test results «before» and «after» implementation of computer testing technology MyTestX had been characterized, the relevant conclusions have been executed. During the research made analysis and comparison of test results 2013-2014 and test results 2016-2017 after introduction of computer technology knowledge assessment tests for students. It was found that the resulting error of 20 % is not acceptable and should be more optimal, within 3-5 %. The results obtained allowed us to make some assumptions: 1) the tests were unsuccessfully compiled; 2) in the assessment of the student too much weight had a subjective factor. As a result it is recommended to carry out certain studies in line with what became the root cause of such inconsistencies. The conclusion is made that computer technologies in testing, even with the reliability of the test space, are not an unambiguous alternative to the traditional knowledge control. It is necessary to use both: normal control and control in the computer program environment (be it MyTestX, or another program).
