The authors investigate the phenomenon of implicit detail studied through E. Hemingway's short stories ("Cat in the Rain", "In Another Country", "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place"). The research explores three types of textual information: CFI (content-factual information), CCI (content-conceptual information), and CSI (content-subtextual information). CFI is explicit and verbalized in the text. CCI represents the author's views revealed through penetrating into CFI. CSI is implicit information deliberately omitted by the author, requiring decoding through implicit title, implication of precedence, and implicit detail. The study analyzes Hemingway's "iceberg principle" rooted in his journalistic skills and realized through literary and linguistic implication. According to this method, textual information resembles an iceberg: CFI is the visible part above water, CSI is the hidden part below, both leading to understanding CCI. The research examines representative implicit details in three stories, revealing their different semantic structures and grammatical characteristics. These details help raise typical moral and social problems of the "lost generation" and demonstrate Hemingway as a brilliant stylist whose particular writing manner expressed his anti-war views.
