Abstract

The modern stage of searching the most effective ways of reforming the system of higher education in Ukraine requires an unbiased analysis of the best achievements of the long-term educational history and its critical understanding. For successful educational model, it still remains important to solve the problem of updating of the teaching corps and constantly improve its professional competence. Therefore, analysis of the achievements and shortcomings of the experience of the process of preparation of scientific and pedagogical staff of the universities of Ukraine in the second half of XIX – the beginning of XX century will have a significant contribution to the further modernization of the high school. To the subject of our research the special interest are the works ofI. Beritova, V. Buzeskula, O. Zharova, L. Petrazhytskiy, N. Terentieva and others. The historical and pedagogical analysis of relevant problems of training of scientific and pedagogical staff in universities of Ukraine in the second half of XIX – the beginning of XX century is made in the article. It is specified that the analysis of the mechanisms of the manning of the scientific and pedagogical staff at St. Vladimir University, Novorossiysk University and Kharkiv University could not happen without the assessment of the role of the privat assistant professorship as a crucial factor in improving the quality of scientific and educational process. It is indicated that privat assistant professorship as well as a system of associate professorship were considered as a reserve for the manning of future academic and teaching staff. The attention is focused on the fact that privat associate professors, who worked at the universities of Ukraine in the particular period, provided considerable information and scientific momentum of the educational process. They became authors and initiators of new courses and special courses, thereby preventing stagnation of the extended character in the conservative mostly academic environment.
