The article deals with the analysis of the reflection
phenomenon as one of the basic determinants of an individual's personality
development. Various philosophically conditioned anthropological and
psychological ideas about the nature and the essence of reflection were
considered. It was proved that the inconsistency of combining various contents
of the reflection research disappears if we consider this phenomenon as a
complex integrative psychic entity. The article argues that the reflexive
competence of an individual makes it possible to solve problems in terms of
mental reshaping and overcoming the stereotypes of thinking and creating new
meanings of consciousness for the purpose of self-development and
self-improvement. The author emphasizes that reflection is in a state of flux,
and it predetermines the efficiency of the processes of self-development,
self-determination and self-education of an individual. The early-to-late
adolescence period of the genesis of being was defined as the sensitive period of
the reflection development in the intellectual and personality contexts. Based on
the analysis of theoretical concepts, the characteristics of reflection in the
phenomenological field of consciousness and the main factors stimulating the
reflexive process were determined.
